“Casting Thoughts is based on the conjugation of two parts: on the one
hand the black and white image of the face of a young woman captured while she was travelling on the metro; on the other hand the sound produced by a needle when it comes to the end of a record. As proven by the diagonal, slightly upward angle view, the footage was taken without the subject being aware of it. The recorded material later underwent editing, removing the documentary
value underlying its production and granting mit a formal treatment. The final
version thus rests on the linking together of a multiplicity of close ups of
the girl added to the continuos playing of the sonorous element; its presence
in the exhibition is almost hypnotic. The protagonist´s gaze is then metamorphosed
into a viewpoint towards an inner world. Centring his attention on it, the
beholder scrutinises her thought´s, exploring the psychological dimension
of her personal identity.”
